Transforming a Front Yard in Burnt Hills with Custom Stone Pillars
This Burnt Hills project was particularly meaningful to us, as the client has been a long-time supporter of our sister company, Decker’s Pondscapes. The homeowner wanted to elevate their front yard with three custom stone pillars featuring integrated lighting. The result was a stunning, illuminated landscape that added both style and functionality.
Building Durable, Stylish Stone Pillars
To ensure the pillars would stand the test of time, we began by carefully excavating the designated areas and pouring concrete footings for a rock-solid foundation. During excavation, we encountered irrigation lines and landscape lighting power lines, which we rerouted to accommodate the new construction.
Materials and Design:
- Used Techo-Bloc Mini Creta 6” pillar kits in Champlain Grey for the structure.
- Capped the pillars with 28” Onyx Black York caps, adding a polished and sophisticated finish.
Pillar Placement & Features:

Driveway Pillars:
- Two pillars, each 36” tall (6 courses high), flanked the driveway.
- Installed 4 SL65 LED lights per pillar, tucked beneath the caps to cast a warm, downward glow.
- Redesigned the surrounding landscape beds to complement the pillars while leaving space for plants.

Light Post Pillar:
- The third pillar, placed near the road, was 42” tall (7 courses high).
- This pillar was built around the existing light post, creating a layered depth effect. The combination of height and material enhanced the post’s visual prominence.
Landscape Enhancements & Finishing Touches
To complete the project, we refreshed the surrounding landscape:
- Mulched all the landscape beds for a cohesive and polished look.
- Removed aging grasses and replaced them with Dwarf Fountain Grasses on either side of the front steps, bordered with fresh mulch.
- Repaired and re-established the lawn in disturbed areas with fresh soil, grass seed, and fertilizer
